  1. Understand new treatments available for Metabolic Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH) and analyze current evidence-base for non-invasive tests (NITs) in the diagnosis, monitoring and prognostication of patients with MASH.
  2. Reflect on how new treatments, NITs and Patient Reported Outcome Measures in MASH can be incorporated into manageable patient pathways in primary and secondary care.
  3. Reflect on how to manage competing risks in patients wih MASH.

Claude Sirlin, MD

Professor of Radiology, UC San Diego

Dr Claude B. Sirlin is a board-certified radiologist who sees patients with a wide range of abdominal conditions affecting the gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems. He specializes in liver imaging, metabolic imaging and imaging of abdominal cancers.

Dr Sirlin founded and directs UC San Diego Health’s Liver Imaging Group, which actively collaborates with hepatologists, surgeons, pathologists and statisticians to advance screening, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes of individuals with liver disease. He is also the co-director of the Cancer Imaging Program at Moores Cancer Center, chair of the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System Committee for the American College of Radiology, and co-director of the Radiologist Clinician-Scientist Training Program. His research interests include MR imaging of liver cancer and liver disease. He has published more than 190 peer-reviewed articles and is a reviewer for multiple radiology journals.

Niharika Samala MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine

Dr Niharika Samala moved to the United States after graduating from Osmania Medical College in India. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. She pursued a hepatology research fellowship in the Liver Diseases Section at the National Institutes of Health. 

Dr Samala has been an integral part of the GI Division since graduating from the gastroenterology fellowship at Indiana University. She is a clinical researcher with an interest in metabolic dysfunction-associated liver disease (MASLD), particularly in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and post-menopausal women, the impact of sarcopenia in MASLD, and acute viral hepatitis. Dr Samala is the director of the MASLD clinic, which serves as an interface between care for patients referred to Indiana University for MASLD and clinical research. 

Mark Dhinesh Muthiah MBBS (Singapore), FRCP (Edin.), MMed (Singapore), FAMS

Dr Mark Dhinesh Muthiah is a Singaporean Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. He graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He subsequently undertook specialist training in internal medicine, gastroenterology and hepatology, graduating as the valedictorian of his cohort. He undertook further research training in hepatology in Virginia Commonwealth University, USA. 

Dr Muthiah has a keen interest in hepatology and liver transplantation and is currently the Medical Director of the Liver Transplantation Programme in the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore. His research interest is in the interplay of cardiometabolic diseases and the liver, and he has published extensively on the topic, with more than 180 publications including lead author publications in top tier journals. He is also actively involved in medical education, serving as the co-director of the final year undergraduate medical school programme in NUH, and has received numerous teaching awards from the university. 

Anita Sugavanam BSc(Hons) MBBS MRCP FRCA,

Senior Hon Clin Lecturer Consultant Anaesthetist, University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust, United Kingdom Medical Director HealthProMatch

Dr. Sugavanam is Consultant Anaesthetist and Trust Transfusion Group Chair at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. She is also an Honorary Senior Clinical lecturer at the University of Sussex and a lecturer for the Masters in Perioperative Medicine. Her specialty interests lie in Hepatobiliary Anaesthesia, Vascular Surgery and Patient Blood Management, particularly anaemia and point-of-care testing. She is also Medical Director at HealthProMatch, a multidisciplinary education and networking platform.
